4 Jan 20 Update: Due to schedule changes, VPM is shifting the "Race Against Cancer" venue to East Bay Raceway in Gibsonton, FL. Dates will now be 12-15 Feb. Looking forward to partnering with some old friends I grew up with as we kick cancer in the butt!
Many of my friends have made the "Ultimate Sacrifice" for their country. While deeply saddened by their loss, I find solace knowing they were willing participants in the "Ultimate Sacrifice Clause” those who wear the uniform accept. Cancer victims are a different story, its wrath is indiscriminate and does not prey upon only volunteers. Cancer cuts across all demographics and nations! We have all lost a Brother, Sister, Mother, Father, Son, Daughter, Spouse, Grandmother, Grandfather, Colleague, or Friend to cancer. The odds seem stacked against us to beat cancer but we can never give up!
Jimmy V's messages has always resonated with me. "Ordinary people can do extraordinary things" and “don't give up, don't ever give up!" Ordinary people can do extraordinary things through perseverance. My racing career has defined perseverance! I’m not the most talented behind the wheel but I have never given up. From racing Karts to Sprint Cars, the watchword has always been perseverance. From the first time my Dad took me to watch sprint cars at Sunshine Speedway in Clearwater, FL, I knew one day, somehow, I would drive sprint cars. It might have taken me until I was 50 years old to finally attain that dream, but I finally did it “don't give up, don't ever give up!" It took me 20 years to finally win a National Championship in Karting but I finally did it in 2002, “don't give up, don't ever give up!" It took me until I was 47 to finally drive a micro sprint, success came quicker but not without a lot of perseverance, “don't give up, don't ever give up!"
We will eventually beat Cancer “don't give up, don't ever give up!" Please join me in helping Veteran Powered Motorsports (VPM) in the “Race Against Cancer.” VPM will donate $10 to the V Foundation for every lap driver Gregg Jones completes during the A-Main for the United Sprint Car Series (USCS) race at Southern Raceway (Milton, FL) on 21 and 22 Feb, 2020. Those who follow my sprint car racing know that making the A-Main does not always happen but VPM will donate regardless. I’m requesting my friends donate $1 for each lap I complete in the “A-Mains.” Stay tuned for details on a VPM car display with my VPM teammate cars of Jim McNulty and Jim Kradel on 20 Feb, 2020 as well as a donations to the V foundation for each one of our friends who attend either race night.
