In celebration of the life of Teresa Adams, we honor her desire to raise awareness of BRCA-related cancers and to support research focused on their detection, prevention and treatment.
The V Foundation/ BRCA Foundation is committed to putting an end to BRCA related cancers. The BRCA initiative will accelerate research and foster collaboration in order to prevent and cure cancers caused by BRCA gene mutations.
A small percentage of people (about one in 400, or 0.25% of the population) carry mutated BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes. When a BRCA gene is mutated, it may no longer be effective at doing its job to prevent ovarian, breast and other types of cancer. People who inherit these mutations have a significantly increased risk for developing these cancers, often at a young age.
