DBM "Hoops for Hope" Year 14
Hoops for Hope began in 2006 as a way for a family to try and do a little more in the fight against cancer. Diane was fighting a reoccurence of ovarian cancer and having joined The Relay for Life the previous year, her son's Ryan and Jason wanted to combine thier love for basketball with an attempt to raise funds and awareness for the battle their mother was currently fighting. In their innaugural year the Brumwell family teamed up with other local basketball players and college friends to raise over $4,000 for the fight.
In July of that same year, Diane's courageous battle ended, but watching their mother fight and ultimately lose her battle with cancer ignited the will in Ryan & Jason to continue their fight in hopes that others wouldn't have to lose their loved ones as well. The second tournament was held the following April with funds once again being distributed to The Relay for Life.
It wasn't until after the second tournament that the Brumwell brothers really discovered The V Foundation and instantly fell in love with the organization. What better way to really make a difference in the fight against cancer than to join an organization that vows to put 100% of all in kind donations directly towards finding a cure?! Since joining The V Foundation the organization has really found it's feet with more money coming in every single year and the Hoops for Hope Family continues to grow, from four teams our first year and $4,000 raised to 20 teams and over $50,000 raised in 2018!
2019 looks to be another great year for our little fundraiser and we hope you will join us to make it another record breaker and help us towards our ultimate goal of finding an end to cancer! In the everlasting and inspiring words of Jim Valvano, "Don't Give Up...Don't Ever Give Up!!!"
