Major Challenge to Bump Out Cancer
Two years ago, in 2017, Major Challenge to Bump Out Cancer was started to raise money for the V Foundation in support of cancer research to honor Kimberly Major. Kimberly was a long-time member of the Colorado Ski and Snowboard Meetup group and frequently on The Steamboat Winter's Eve trips. About five years ago, Kimberly was diagnosed with stage four cervical cancer, a fairly rare cancer with a very high mortality rate. She began a long courageous battle with the evil C word. She came out of her first round of chemo treatments in remission, a minor miracle, but the cancer came back a mere 6 months later. A second round of chemo treatments was unsuccessful. She was then accepted into a clinical trial, but complications from the cancer prevented her from starting, and she was left with no further treatment options. She succumbed to the disease within the year.
Kimberly may have lost her battle with cancer, but her friends and family have kept her incredible spirit alive through the Major Challenge to Bump Out Cancer. The Major Challenge began as a one-day ski event. This year, inspired by her courageous battle, OutdoorsCO is joining forces with Kimberly’s friends and family to help find a cure to end the agony of this horrible disease in her honor by naming the V Foundation as their charity partner.
